Federal Statistics Research Data Center

As of September 16, 2024, OSU's federal statistics research data center is open!

OSU faculty, students, and staff can use the center free of charge. The FSRDC is located next to IPR in 048 Townshend Hall. Questions about FSRDC research or procedures can be directed to Executive Director Dean Lillard or FSRDC Administrator Blain Morin

OSU is a member of the federal statistics research data center (FSRDC) at the University of Kentucky (KRDC). The Kentucky Research Data Center (KRDC) is a collaboration between the University of Kentucky and the U.S. Census Bureau established by a grant from the National Science Foundation in 2016. KRDC is part of the nationwide system of Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (FSRDC) whose mission is to expand the data infrastructure available to qualified scholars and students with approved projects by providing access to restricted individual- and firm-level data from participating federal statistical agencies. KRDC is maintained by a regional consortium of leading research institutions, including the University of Kentucky, Indiana University, and The Ohio State University

What does an FSRDC offer researchers?

This resource offers researchers the opportunity to use restricted-access federal data to conduct advanced research in fields such as economics, management, business, demography, health, epidemiology, geography, environment, urban planning, political science, sociology, criminology, and more. The advantages of restricted-access data include larger samples, finer levels of geography (in some cases census block and tract levels), additional variables, and more detailed coding of key variables. In addition, many datasets are linked to records from administrative databases.

Interested in RDC research?

Researchers wishing to use an FSRDC must develop a project proposal, receive approval for the project, and undergo a security clearance. Visit the KRDC Website (krdc.uky.edu) for an overview of the proposal process and the description of available data. Contact the KRDC Administrator (Carlos Lopes, carlos.j.lopes@census.gov) with any questions. The Administrator will help researchers prepare and submit materials for review, and can assist researchers in determining data availability and in preparing high-quality proposals.
