The conference is held annually and is organized by Bowling Green State University's Center for Family and Demographic Research (CFDR) and Ohio State University's Institute for Population Research (IPR), working together as the Ohio Population Consortium.
This year, we look forward to seeing everyone in Bowling Green, OH on Friday November 1st, 2024!
All are welcome to attend, even if you do not have a paper to submit currently. If you are interested in attending or presenting at the conference, please fill out the BGSU/OSU Conference Registration and Survey so we can get an accurate headcount. For submissions, please email your paper/abstract to fmarino@bgsu.edu with subject line “BGSU/OSU Conference Submission” and the type of submission in the body of the email (in addition to filling out the survey).
IPR will help arrange and reimburse transportation to BGSU.
For those who would like to present, we welcome and encourage paper submissions on population-related topics from graduate students in all departments and disciplines. This conference is a wonderful opportunity to engage in academic discussions with students and faculty in a low-stakes setting.
Prospective participants will have a chance to submit their research for presentation at either an oral session OR a roundtable.
Students who would like to submit for an oral session should submit either:
• An extended abstract (3-4 pages that include an abstract, literature review, methods, and at least preliminary findings) or
• A full paper.
Roundtables will consist of short, informal oral presentations, providing a one-page handout to the audience at a table, followed by a Q&A and group discussion. These sessions are particularly beneficial for smaller projects or projects at early stages of development. We recommend that students who have working papers with preliminary findings submit for an oral session.
Students who would like to participate in a roundtable should submit:
• An extended abstract (3-4 pages that include an abstract, literature review, and methods section).
We are also looking for session chairs. Session chairs will be assigned to each session based on their similar research expertise. They will run their sessions by:
• Keeping time
• Introducing each scholar
• Facilitating discussion
The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, October 2nd, by 11:59 PM EDT. Participants will be notified if their paper is accepted by Oct. 9th and what section and time they will be presenting by Oct. 16th.
