Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Same-Sex Couples and their Families

Major shifts in the legal and social context surrounding same-sex relationships have occurred. The social acceptance and support for same-sex couples has skyrocketed such that the majority of Americans support same-sex marriage, and the legal system has been transformed with the U.S. Supreme Court decision supporting marriage equality. While these changes have been rapidly underway there has been growing scholarly attention to the well-being of children and adults in same-sex parent families. Dr. Manning will review recent research on child and adult well-being as well as new findings related to the relationship stability of same-sex couples. Concluding comments will focus on challenges and opportunities for new research on same-sex relationships in the United States.
