The Institute for Population Research Graduate Student Organization (IPRGSO) is excited to announce their next event. IPRGSO is a graduate student-led organization that hosts events to strengthen connections among IPR students. 

In this session, the speakers will share insights on navigating the academic job market, academic career paths, postdoctoral experiences, building research pipelines, and transitions from graduate school to postdoc/tenure-track positions.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Alec Rhodes, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Purdue University
    Dr. Rhodes studies economic inequality, financial insecurity, and life course processes. His research examines how credit, debt, labor markets, and social policy shape economic well-being across individuals and communities. He received his PhD from Ohio State and previously completed a postdoc at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
    • Research areas: economic sociology, poverty, wealth and debt, labor markets, and social policy
  • Dr. Nico Pinchak, Postdoctoral Scholar, Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice, University of Chicago
    Dr. Pinchak researches how schools and neighborhoods shape adolescent well-being and development. His work focuses on urban contexts, routine activities, and longitudinal patterns of youth outcomes. He received his PhD from Ohio State and completed a postdoc at the University of Oxford.
    • Research areas: community and urban sociology, criminology, and social and spatial demography

Note: The session will be held in person, with speakers joining remotely via Zoom. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.
