Title of Talk: Climate Change & Population Dynamics: Long-term & Short-term Impacts on Population Change Due to Hurricane Exposure
Abstract: This project examines the impact of hurricanes on population change and adds to our knowledge by taking a prospective and long-term view, rather than retrospective and case-based assessments. We draw upon harmonized county-level data (1970-2018) for hurricane impacts, population change, and economic growth for the U.S. and apply difference in difference approaches to assess the impacts. We conduct several robustness checks and find strong support for our hypotheses.
