Title: Unpacking Resilience: A Dominance Analysis of Developmental Assets Against Suicidal Ideation in Young Black Sexual Minority Males Age 14 to 24
Abstract: Suicidal behaviors among Black sexual minority males (BSMM) aged 14 to 24 represent a critical public health concern that has been largely overlooked. Research indicates that among young men aged 18 to 25, 18.4% of gay men and 22.2% of bisexual men have experienced suicidal ideation, compared to just 6.7% of heterosexual men. Young Black sexual minorities often experience a lack of supportive resources, leading to feelings of isolation and hopelessness. Utilizing asset-based and dominance analysis, this study aims to identify key protective factors that can mitigate suicidal behaviors in this vulnerable group. By examining the roles of developmental assets such as family support, positive identity, and positive values, this research seeks to highlight their relative importance and dominance in influencing mental health outcomes.
