
This session will begin with a brief introduction to spatial data and the main concepts involving projecting them onto a coordinate system. Then the focus will shift to the sf, a popular R package for making maps (https://r-spatial.github.io/sf/). We will walk through several examples of how to use sf to create maps with geographic points (latitude and longitude) and administrative units (e.g., census tracts, counties, states, countries, etc.), as well as adding data attributes that describe these units (e.g., counts, rates, statistical summaries).
