Racism and Health: Findings, Questions and Directions
Dr. David Williams, Harvard University
David R. Williams is the Florence and Laura Norman Professor of Public Health, Professor of African and African American Studies and an Affiliate of the Sociology Department at Harvard University. His research has explored the effects on health of race, racism, socioeconomic status, and religion. The author of more than 300 scientific papers, he was one of the top ten most cited researchers in the social sciences during the decade 1995-2005 and the most cited Black scholar in the social sciences in 2008. He is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and he has served on seven panels of the Institute of Medicine. Professor Williams holds an MPH from Loma Linda University and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Michigan.
