  • Research Interests: Haurin's research on housing includes studies of the reasons for the gap in homeownership rates between African Americans and other groups, the determinants of the time to first homeownership, studies of the marketing process for houses, and studies of the impact of changes in house prices on household economic behaviors. His research on household formation includes a study of the impact of racial differences in household formation rates on the racial gap in homeownership rates. Another study is of youths' choices of when to leave their parental home and their geographic destination. Haurin's research on school quality and house prices focuses on understanding which of the factors that affect school quality also affect house prices.

  • Current Research: Other interests include analysis of the likelihood that a household will sustain a spell of homeownership, and continuing studies of whether children's cognitive and behavioral outcomes are affected by their housing conditions.
