  • Research Interests: demographic forces that shape international social change


  • Current Research: the demography of economic development/growth, reformulations of demographic transition theory, and the demographic and social determinants of internal war (funded by the MacArthur Foundation). Other projects include an empirical assessment of "globalization" and how it influences democracy and warfare, the global diffusion of Internet usage, and the causes of environmental degradation (a project originally funded by the National Science Foundation)
