  • Research Interests: Dr. Williams' research examines the influence of support and strain in family and other personal relationships on mental and physical health, with a particular focus on gender and life course variations in these patterns. Her recent projects include an examination of the influence of marital and cohabitation transitions on the health and well-being of single mothers and an NIA funded study of life course variations in the stress-buffering role of personal relationships.
  • Current Research: effects of marital transitions and marital quality on mental and physical health, effects of work/family strain on spouse’s health, and the impact of late-life widowhood on health-related behavior.
