Research statement: As a social demographer, my work is anchored in two areas: reproductive health, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, and the (re)production of social and economic vulnerabilities. I’m interested in how vulnerability is constituted by institutional, environmental, and social constraints which in turn shape individual and collective beliefs, behaviors, and imagined futures. I concentrate on the dynamics of social relationships, economic and social risk, and future-oriented health behaviors (e.g. fertility).
