  • Ph.D., The University of Texas at Austin, 1984

  • Research Interests: My research focuses on the ways in which place, spatial location, and community social outcomes intersect.  Of particular concern is understanding how racial residential segregation and the geographic concentration of disadvantages and advantages produce highly unequal levels of crime and violence across distinct ethnoracial urban communities.  I also conduct research on racial and ethnic differences in housing and wealth in the United States.

  • Current Research: Currently investigating the relationships among residential segregation, concentrated disadvantage, and black-white differences urban crime; neighborhood disadvantage
